Empowering Nigerian Nurses and Midwives in the UK for Over 25 Years

When I first arrived in the UK, I was overwhelmed by the differences in the healthcare system and unsure where to start. Joining NNCAUK was a turning point for me. Through their mentorship programme, I was paired with a senior nurse who guided me through the NMC registration process and helped me settle into my first NHS role. With the support and encouragement I received, I gained the confidence to pursue leadership opportunities. Today, I am proud to be a ward manager, and I credit NNCAUK for helping me unlock my potential.”

I joined NNCAUK soon after moving to the UK, hoping to find a sense of community. Attending my first networking event was eye-opening—the warmth, the shared experiences, and the willingness to help one another were incredible. Through NNCAUK, I found a mentor, secured a new job, and even collaborated on a research project. The association has truly opened doors for me and made me feel at home in a new country.

As a midwife, I wanted to keep developing my skills and stay up to date with best practices. NNCAUK’s accredited workshops and online courses were exactly what I needed. They helped me meet my CPD requirements and gave me the confidence to take on more responsibility at work. Thanks to the learning opportunities provided by NNCAUK, I have since been promoted and feel more empowered in my role.

After gaining experience in the NHS, I felt it was time to give back. Volunteering as a mentor with NNCAUK has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. Supporting newly arrived nurses, sharing advice, and watching them grow in confidence has been incredibly fulfilling. I’m grateful to NNCAUK for giving me the platform to make a difference in others’ lives.
